City receives 2023 Governor’s Award The City of Hermitage and the Borough of Wheatland received a 2023 Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence at a presentation ceremony in Harrisburg on April 13. The award, in the category of Intergovernmental Cooperation, was in recognition of the municipal merger between the two municipalities that becomes effective on January 1, 2024. In addition to the award, both municipalities received citations from State Senator Michele Brooks and State Representative Parke Wentling, recognizing the accomplishment. The City of Hermitage was also recognized with a Governor’s Award in 2020 in the category of Innovative Community & Government Initiatives for the Food Waste to Energy Program at the wastewater treatment plant. Earth Day Festival at LindenPointe In Partnership with the Shenango River Watchers, the City hosted it’s inaugural Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 22nd. The day began at 9 am with a community clean up. Volunteers were provided coffee by O’Neil Coffee and a light a breakfast as they helped pickup trash and debris around our beautiful city. Earth Day Fest officially began at noon and included live entertainment, children’s activities, free food waste digester tours, free composting classes, and a vendor area made up of informational booths and eco-friendly producers, processors, and artisans. We are returning for season two of night market!! 2022 was our inaugural season and WOW, we could not believe the turnout! 90% of our vendors sold out our first market within the first two hours!! We are so excited to bring back the market for 2023 along with more vendors, more variety, more food and more fun! Hard-to-Recycle Events Monthly H2R (Hard-to-Recycle) events are held at various participating locations around Mercer and Lawrence County. These recycling events are free to residents. Try A Day of Rock Climbing & Rappelling PLEASE NOTE, REGISTRATION CLOSES MAY 1ST JOIN US! Outdoor Rock Climbing and Rappelling Trip Join us for a day of adventure! We will be taking a trip to McConnells Mill State Park to spend the day rock climbing and rappelling with experts from ASCEND climbing gym. Shuttle service will depart the city building at 8:00 am sharp, please arrive by 7:45 am. Climb time: 8:45 am - 3pm Dinner and Drinks at North Country Brewing afterwards Shuttle return time : 8pm Participants will be responsible for ensuring that they have a packed lunch and plenty of water. Summer Camp at Buhl Park Join us for Summer Camp @ Buhl Park. All children entering K-6 grades are encouraged to be a part of the adventure! Spend your summer outdoors engaging in educational and recreational activities like art and music class, environmental education, sports, games, and water activities. Grades 2-6 will have the option to swim on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Camp will run from June 12th through July 21st, Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm. Registration closes June 1st.

Hermitage Kickball League Registration Available! The HKL is an adult kickball league through the City of Hermitage's Parks and Rec department. The season last 6 weeks and begins the week of July 25th with an end of the season tournament. Games are played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights beginning at 6 pm at the Hermitage Athletic Complex. Each team will play one game a week. Cost is $300 per team. Teams must consist of at least 10 players with no more than 18. All players must be registered before the start of the season. ALL teams must have a minimum of 4 females on the field when playing. The last day to register is July 18th. Players who do not have their waivers turned in by the 18th will not be able to participate. Kentucky Derby PartyThe Homegrown Initiative invites all southern belles and gents to join us for an evening you won’t soon forget! Come ready to eat, drink and bet merrily at Homegrown’s first annual run for the roses, Kentucky Derby Party at the exquisite Buhl Mansion on Saturday May 6th at 4pm! Ladies don your most darling hats, gents your most dashing bow ties. This will be a truly specular evening filled with southern fare, exhilarating races, mint juleps, prizes, dancing and more! Homegrown Initiative was established February 2022 and is focused on changing the narrative in Mercer County through the four quadrants of Live, Learn, Work and Play. All proceeds raised from this event will be used to proliferate our mission of youth development, young adult retention and community growth and advancement. Since our formation in 2022, Homegrown Initiative has placed over 60 young adults in careers and local industry, collaborated with Mercer Country schools to install mental health rooms for students, participated in career expos with over 1400 high school students in attendance, and created a calendar of networking and social events connecting talented young adults and showcasing all of the incredible things Mercer County has to offer. Historical Society Collaboration The Hermitage Historical Society and Sharon Historical Society are collaborating to create a book, but need your help! The Societies are gathering data and photos of well-known historical homes in Hermitage/Hickory Township (approx. original construction 1800s – 1920s). Homes may or may not be standing today.
