A Call for Reflective Gear!

As the seasons change and darkness falls earlier, let's shed some light on the importance of wearing reflective gear at night

With the sun setting sooner, it's crucial for pedestrians and cyclists to be visible on our streets. Whether you're taking a leisurely stroll or enjoying a bike ride, make sure you're decked out in reflective gear to enhance your visibility and safety

Here's why it matters:

Visibility is Key: Reflective gear ensures that drivers can spot you from a distance, reducing the risk of accidents.

Be Seen, Be Safe: Wearing reflective clothing and accessories makes you easily noticeable, helping motorists react in time.

Seasonal Awareness: With daylight diminishing, it's our responsibility to take extra precautions.

Whether you're navigating busy streets or quiet neighborhoods, being visible is a shared responsibility. Let's illuminate our paths and prioritize safety for all

Hermitage City 2024 Budget Overview: Investing in Community Growth and Enhancement

The proposed 2024 budget upholds the current real estate and earned income tax rates for the 33rd consecutive year. With a General Fund budget totaling $16,242,406, $2,016,036 will be allocated to enhance capital budgets for infrastructure maintenance and significant equipment purchases.

Planned capital project expenditures for 2024 encompass $2M for street paving and stormwater system improvements, $800,000 for public safety equipment, $250,000 for public works equipment, parks and recreation facilities, and ongoing investments in technology upgrades and building maintenance. The budget also designates $450,000 for capital improvements in the Wheatland neighborhood, derived from former Borough of Wheatland reserve funds following the merger.

The 2024 Sewer Fund budget, totaling $7,828,467, includes additional revenue from the Wheatland neighborhood. The Food Waste to Energy Program will expand after two years of reduced capacity due to necessary equipment repairs. The Hermitage Municipal Authority plans to extend the municipal sanitary sewer system in 2024, enhancing infrastructure along South Neshannock Road and parts of Virginia Road and Miller Road, fostering development opportunities.

Efforts are underway to implement scheduling at the newly constructed DEK hockey facility at the Hermitage Athletic Complex, allowing maximum community use. The city plans to expand access to other HAC facilities, add more trails, and enhance existing community events. Initiatives include collaborating with a new Hermitage business organization to promote locally-owned businesses and continuing redevelopment work with the new owners of the former Shenango Mall property.

The 2024 budget is available for public viewing in the lobby of the Hermitage Municipal Building and on the City’s website: https://www.hermitage.net/174/Administration-Finance

We remain committed to enhancing community engagement through newsletters, social media, and partnerships with local organizations. Programs like free library cards and discounted outdoor pool passes for residents will persist, ensuring continued support for the Hermitage community.
