Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop at Stull Nature Reserve On February 26th, The City of Hermitage held a pruning fruit trees workshop at Stull Nature Reserve, Led by Cem Akin of the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, attendees were treated to an informative session that left them equipped with valuable skills and knowledge. The event, well-attended and engaging, provided a platform for all to learn and grow together. With excitement, we look forward to witnessing the orchard's growth and prosperity, grateful for the contributions of all who participated.

Façade Improvement Program Applications are now available for the Sharon/Hermitage Façade Improvement Program. Applications are due by April 30, 2024. If funds are available, additional rounds will open with deadlines of June 30, 2024 and August 30, 2024. Maximum grant amount is $5,000 and a dollar-for-dollar match is required. Funding is on a reimbursement basis after the project is completed. City Garage Electronics Recycling Program: Covered Devices and E-Waste Collection Covered Devices, including monitors, peripherals, desktop and laptop computers, and televisions, can be recycled at the City Garage on Virginia Road. Collection occurs year-round on the first and third Friday, 7 a.m. to Noon, excluding shutdown days. Tire & Household Appliance Recycling Hermitage residents can dispose of old tires and household appliances at the City Garage on Virginia Road, with a limit of four tires per visit and no cost involved. Proof of residency is necessary, and residents must call ahead to arrange drop-off. Accepted items include tires (without rims or dirt inside), all household appliances. Appliances containing Freon must have doors disabled, freon removed and properly tagged by a certified technician. Contact the Hermitage Municipal Building for more details at 724-981-0800.

Hard-to-Recycle Events Monthly H2R (Hard-to-Recycle) events are held at various participating locations around Mercer and Lawrence County. These recycling events are free to residents. Yard Waste Collection Begins in April Yard waste collection will take place as part of your normal curbside collection on a weekly basis starting the 3rd week in April Green-lid yard waste carts or biodegradable bags may be placed at the curb on a weekly basis on your regular collection day. There is no limit to the amount of biodegradable bags a household can place at the curb.

This summer camp is open to all students entering grades 1st through 6th. The camp will offer a diverse range of outdoor educational and recreational activities from June 10th to July 19th, running five days a week from 9am to 3pm. eAcademy Student Pitch Competitions: VersaStyle Takes the Lead The eAcademy hosts two student pitch competitions annually. In the first semester, students participate in "Dolphin Tank," presenting elevator pitches to local judges, covering product details, problem-solving, benefits, and initial product specs. VersaStyle won first place this year and will compete at Demo Day with a working prototype and full business plan for a chance to win up to $5,000. VersaStyle is a hair-care tool aimed at multi-racial families, offering versatility and promoting self-confidence. The team consists of five local high school seniors.
