Proclamation Honors 3x State Champion Girls Golf Team

The 3x Hickory State Champion Girls Golf Team was honored at a ceremony during the City of Hermitage's July commissioners meeting. The team received a proclamation recognizing their incredible achievement.

New Businesses Open in Hermitage: Envy Hair & Nail Studio, Blue Collar Betty’s, and Giavonna’s Gourmet Coffee

Three new small businesses have recently opened in Hermitage. Envy Hair and Nail Studio, owned by Amanda Bonner, offers a wide range of hair, brow, lash, and nail services at 3001 E. State Street. Blue Collar Betty’s Bar & Grill, located at 39 Ohio Street in the Wheatland Neighborhood, provides daily food and drink offerings, including delivery to local workplaces, and is owned by Lisa Kantorik. Lastly, Giavonna’s Gourmet Coffee, a mobile coffee trailer owned by Phil and Ashley DeAngelo, is now serving hot and cold coffee drinks in the parking lot of Ten Pin Alley on select days

Bulk Trash Pick Up

City of Hermitage Fall 2024 Bulk Trash Collection Update

Aiken Refuse, the new provider for solid waste services in Hermitage, will conduct a Fall bulk trash collection. The schedule differs from previous years, and only residents current on their quarterly garbage bill are eligible. Bulk items must be placed at the curb by Sunday night before your scheduled pick-up week:

  • Monday Collection: Set out by Sept 22 for pick-up Sept 23-27
  • Tuesday Collection: Set out by Sept 29 for pick-up Sept 30-Oct 4
  • Wednesday Collection: Set out by Oct 6 for pick-up Oct 7-11
  • Thursday Collection: Set out by Oct 13 for pick-up Oct 14-18

Attention Hermitage residents! We're thrilled to announce our participation in this year's Lady Scout Food Fight, supporting the Mercer County Food Bank. Thanks to your generosity, we collected over 260 pounds of food at our August Night Market—let's keep up the momentum!

Event Details:

CPA Flyer

Join the Hermitage Police Department's 3rd Citizens Police Academy!

Residents of the Shenango Valley, the Hermitage Police Department is thrilled to announce the return of its Citizens Police Academy! This 10-week program offers a comprehensive introduction to law enforcement and the Criminal Justice and Juvenile systems.

Participants will hear from a variety of guest speakers, including judges, attorneys, probation officers, and members of the Mercer County CIRT, along with special presentations from the Hermitage PD’s K9 Unit, Investigative Division, and Patrol Operations.

Program Details:

  • Start Date: Wednesday, September 4, 2024
  • Class Schedule: Weekly on Wednesdays, 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM, until November 13, 2024
  • Location: 3050 Prosperity Place, Hermitage PA

Historical Society

Stewart House Wine & Brew Event

This year marks the 155th anniversary of the Stewart House, home of the Hermitage Historical Society.  We are planning to host an open house and Wine and Brew event on September 17 from 5:00-8:00 to commemorate this historical marker.  There will be wine, beer, and assorted appetizers from West End Grille of Mercer and light refreshments will be provided.  Tickets will be $20 and can be purchased at the door of the Stewart House at 5465 East State Street.

As a Shenango Valley native with a wealth of entrepreneurial experience, Calleja is poised to lead the LDC into an exciting new chapter. We look forward to his contributions to the continual growth of entrepreneurship in our community.

The boutiques of Hermitage invite everyone to the 2nd annual Boo-tique Hop! Shoppers are encouraged to bring a friend and enjoy a night of exclusive promos, DIY activities, sips, and snacks as they visit each shop along East State Street. Participants can get their card stamped at every stop for a chance to win a raffle prize. Participating shops include So So Trendy, Poppy Rd. Boutique, Best Life, Webb Winery, and Diane's Boutique. It’s a perfect evening for a spooky and stylish adventure!

City Garage Electronics Recycling Program: Covered Devices and E-Waste Collection

Covered Devices, including monitors, peripherals, desktop and laptop computers, and televisions, can be recycled at the City Garage on Virginia Road. Collection occurs year-round on the first and third Friday, 7 a.m. to Noon, excluding shutdown days. Schedule drop-offs by calling City Garage at (724) 342-0210 and purchasing a $20 tag per electronic item

Tire & Household Appliance Recycling 
 
Hermitage residents can dispose of old tires and household appliances at the City Garage on Virginia Road, with a limit of four tires per visit and no cost involved. Proof of residency is necessary, and residents must call ahead to arrange drop-off. Accepted items include tires (without rims or dirt inside), all household appliances. Appliances containing Freon must have doors disabled, freon removed and properly tagged by a certified technician. Contact the Hermitage Municipal Building for more details at 724-981-0800.

Monthly H2R (Hard-to-Recycle) events are held at various participating locations around Mercer and Lawrence County. These recycling events are free to residents. 

Collection days are held on the second Tuesday of each month from 9am – 1pm.

September Recycling Events

In September, a series of recycling-related events will be held, all open to the public. 

  • Aug 31-Sept 5: Glass Recycling at the Springfield Township Municipal Building, Mercer County.
  • September 21: Collection event for appliances, e-waste, household hazardous waste, and tires in Mercer County.
  • September 28: Collection event for appliances, e-waste, household hazardous waste, and tires in Lawrence County.
  • September 28 – October 3: Glass Recycling in the City of Hermitage.

Additional details include:

  • The September 28 event will feature free paper shredding by Lark Enterprises.
  • On September 3, a free 32-gallon glass recycling bin will be available at the Springfield Township glass collection site from 10 AM to 1 PM, while supplies last.
  • A Backyard Composting and Rain Barrel class, in collaboration with the Lawrence County Conservation District, will be announced for later this year.

New Reservation System for City of Hermitage Facilities

Starting September 3, 2024, all requests for field usage and facility reservations must be submitted through the City of Hermitage's ActiveNet Registration and Recreation website. This includes reservations for various spaces such as little league baseball fields, Hermitage Athletic Complex fields, Rodney White Park fields and gazebo, trails, the Training Workforce Development Center at LindenPointe, and Wheatland Community Center.
