Night Market Recap

Thank you for another incredible Night Market season! We are so grateful to all the vendors who participated and to everyone who came out to support our local artisans, farmers, musicians, and culinary vendors. 

Special shoutouts to Tim Dye, Steve Vuich, The Aura and Max and Jane for making this season unforgettable!

We had a blast connecting with our community, and we can't wait to see everyone again next year!

In the meantime, mark your calendars for our upcoming events: the Holiday Light Parade on Nov. 23rd  and the Winter Solstice celebration on Dec. 21st.

PennDot Secretary

PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll Visits Hermitage

On October 4th, PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll visited Hermitage, where he was welcomed by city officials, community members, Senator Michele Brooks, and Representative Parke Wentling at the Hermitage Athletic Complex. During his visit, he announced two PennDOT Multimodal Transportation grants totaling $680,000, which will fund a trail connection from the Lorenwood Drive neighborhood to the complex, improve Lorenwood Drive, and extend trails within the complex, addressing safety concerns raised by residents. Secretary Carroll also toured the Wheatland neighborhood, where he discussed potential funding opportunities to improve poor road conditions in the industrial area.

White House National Security Director

The City of Hermitage Welcomed White House National Cyber Director Harry Coker, Jr.

The City of Hermitage was pleased to welcome White House National Cyber Director, Harry Coker, Jr., and his team to the eCenter@LindenPointe. The Pennsylvania Cybersecurity Center, headquartered at the eCenter, hosted the Director and his team. The PCC trains high school and college students, as well as adult learners, for careers in cybersecurity fields. Following the meeting, Director Coker offered public remarks at a gathering that included a panel discussion with local educators. Additionally, the team conducted a Student Listening Session and an Ecosystem Roundtable to gather input from local students, educators, and workforce development professionals.

First time homebuyer program

The City of Hermitage Launches First-Time Homebuyers Assistance Program

The City of Hermitage launched a First-Time Homebuyers Assistance Program on September 16, 2024. The program offers a $5,000 grant to assist first-time homebuyers, which will be paid directly to the closing agent. To qualify, applicants must not have owned a home in Hermitage in the past three years, purchase a single-family home as their primary residence, and complete a bona fide transaction with Realty Transfer Tax. Applications are available at the Hermitage Municipal Building or online, and must be submitted in person. The program is first-come, first-served and will close after 15 applications.

 The City of Hermitage DEK Hockey Rink is officially open to the public!

•  Hours: 7:00 AM – 7 PM (During daylight hours only)

•  Location: City of Hermitage Athletic Complex, 750 S Darby Rd

•           Cost: Free and open to the public

•           Private Rentals: $20/hour. You can reserve the rink for private events through our ActiveNet software here: https://anc.apm.activecommunities.com/cityofhermitage/home

Historical Society Christmas Tree Tours

The annual Christmas tree tours at the Stewart House will commence after Thanksgiving. These tours are free and open to the public. The schedule is as follows:

  • November 30 and December 1 – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • December 6 – 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • December 7 and 8 – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • December 13 – 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • December 14 and 15 – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Everyone is invited to enjoy the festive decorations and holiday spirit at the Stewart House.

Congratulations to the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter (SVAS) on the Groundbreaking Ceremony for its planned, new building at Lynnwood Drive, Hermitage, adjacent to Tails of Hope.  SVAS is a nonprofit, no-,kill shelter that promotes adoption, and a new building is needed to replace its current, outdated building, and to properly care for the animals. New Additions to Hermitage: Starbucks and Hunger Station Grill Open Their Doors

Starbucks recently opened its second Hermitage location at the corner of East State Street and Buhl Farm Drive, on the property formerly occupied by Denny’s.  The location includes a drive through and a beautiful outdoor patio.  Of course, the full Starbucks’s menu is available at the new location including a variety of hot, cold brewed and iced coffees, lattes, espressos, flat whites, macchiatos, and mochas, as well as other beverages, and breakfast and bakery food options.

 

Hunger Station Grill has opened its Hermitage store at 2431 East State Street, at the Hermitage Towne Plaza near Plaza Pizza.   Hunger Station is the place where the rich flavors of the Mediterranean meet American traditions.  They offer a variety of platters with a choice of meats over rice, chicken wings and tenders, a fries with various toppings, appetizers and beverage choices.  The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and can be reached at 724-308-6425 and found on Facebook.

Proper Recycling of Plastic Bags and Film 

Plastic bags are recyclable but should not be placed in curbside bins, as they can damage recycling equipment. Instead, take plastic bags and film to designated drop-off locations, often found at local grocery, department, or hardware stores. Visit www.abagslife.com to find nearby drop-off points and for more information on what types of plastic bags and film are accepted. To reduce plastic waste, consider using reusable cloth or paper bags when shopping.

City Garage Electronics Recycling Program: Covered Devices and E-Waste Collection

Covered Devices, including monitors, peripherals, desktop and laptop computers, and televisions, can be recycled at the City Garage on Virginia Road. Collection occurs year-round on the first and third Friday, 7 a.m. to Noon, excluding shutdown days. Schedule drop-offs by calling City Garage at (724) 342-0210 and purchasing a $20 tag per electronic item

Recycled tires

Tire & Household Appliance Recycling 
 
Hermitage residents can dispose of old tires and household appliances at the City Garage on Virginia Road, with a limit of four tires per visit and no cost involved. Proof of residency is necessary, and residents must call ahead to arrange drop-off. Accepted items include tires (without rims or dirt inside), all household appliances. Appliances containing Freon must have doors disabled, freon removed and properly tagged by a certified technician. Contact the Hermitage Municipal Building for more details at 724-981-0800.

Monthly H2R (Hard-to-Recycle) events are held at various participating locations around Mercer and Lawrence County. These recycling events are free to residents. 

Collection days are held on the second Tuesday of each month from 9am – 1pm.

Did you know you can easily manage your City of Hermitage bills online? Pay your Sewer Bills and General Invoices securely using credit card or e-check through our Online Bill Pay Site. Visit www.hermitage.net and click on the 'Online Bill Pay' button on our homepage. Create a login, choose your bill type, and search using your Bill Number. Please note that online payments are not available for Per Capita tax and real estate tax payments at this time
