KEVO Brew Awarded MCIF Grant On January 23rd, the City of Hermitage joined the Mercer County Innovation Fund (MCIF) in awarding a $10,000 grant to KEVO Brew for its innovative K-cup cold coffee brewer. Supported by Ben Franklin Technology Partners, MCIF fosters local tech startups and economic growth.

City Center Redevelopment Moves Forward On January 13th, the Hermitage Planning Commission approved land development plans for Chick-fil-A, Chili’s, LongHorn Steakhouse, and a 130,000 sq. ft. national retailer at the Shenango Valley Mall site. Mall demolition will be completed by March 31st, with new construction starting later this year and store openings expected in 2026.

Penn, Jr., served as the keynote speaker at the Shenango Valley Urban League’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Remembrance Breakfast. South Neshannock Road Sewer Extension Project The Hermitage Municipal Authority’s South Neshannock Road Sewer Extension Project will expand municipal sanitary sewer service along South Neshannock Road, from East State Street to Miller Road. The project also includes sewer extensions on Virginia Road and Miller Road, extending from South Neshannock Road to South Darby Road. The construction contract was awarded to Mortimer Excavating, Inc. on December 4, 2024, for $1,332,760. Work is scheduled to begin in late March and is expected to be completed by fall. Property owners will receive information packets in the mail soon.

Inaugural Cyber Summit: Exploring Careers & Impact in Cybersecurity The Pennsylvania Cybersecurity Center and Penn State Shenango are proud to present the inaugural Cyber Summit – sponsored by Pelican3 and Sharon Tube. The even will be on March 19th at the Penn State Shenango Auditorium from 8am – 12noon. It will have two sessions featuring speakers from military, government and private industry detailing their careers, career paths and how cybersecurity impacts their companies on a daily basis. The event is FREE and open to area high school and college students as well as business professionals. In addition, there will be several area companies with display tables. eAcademy Students Make a Splash at Dolphin Tank Pitch Event The eAcademy students recently competed in their first pitch event, Dolphin Tank, on February 20th. They presented the problem they are aiming to solve, their proposed solution, and the key benefits of that solution. Receiving valuable feedback from a panel of industry leaders encouraged students to take the next step toward writing their full business plan and building a working prototype. This year’s judges included: Bradley Calleja (LindenPointe Development Corporation), Ivan Meszaros (Meszaros Family Charitable Foundation), Lorie Hines (HopeCAT), Quyrus Epps (ELLWOOD), and Frank Gargiulo (Penn State Shenango).

Monday – Friday | 8 AM – 3 PM Free for residents (Proof of residency required) -Limit on the number of tires per visit -No tires with rims or dirt in casings New Procedure Starting February 1, 2025 Before dropping off tires, residents must contact Aiken Refuse at (724) 758-9400 x5 to receive a confirmation code for drop-off.
