"Attention Residents of Mercer and Lawrence Counties - KNOW YOUR RIGHTS TO FAIR HOUSING"
Have you ever heard, “Sorry, the unit is no longer available”, “The rent is $200 higher for persons with a disability”, or “We don’t rent to families with children”, if so, you could be a victim of housing discrimination? The Federal Fair Housing Act prohibits the denial of housing to a person based upon the person’s race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), familial status and disability. Pennsylvania also considers a person’s age, ancestry and the use of a support animal as protected classes. False denial of availability, discriminating advertising, financial status and blockbusting are all examples of discrimination. If you believe that you have been discriminated against in a housing situation, please contact the Mercer County Planning Commission @ (724) 981-2412 or the Lawrence County Planning Department @ (724) 656-2193 for assistance
