Hermitage residents who need to dispose of old tires or household appliances may bring these items to the City Garage, located at 5250 Virginia Road.
Tires
- Limit of four (4) tires per visit.
- Tires with rims or tires containing dirt inside the casing will not be accepted.
- NEW – Beginning February 1, 2025: Please contact Aiken Refuse at (724) 758-9400 x5 before dropping off tires at the City Garage. They will provide a confirmation code to use at drop-off.
Household Appliances
- Most household appliances are considered e-waste because they contain digital components or circuit boards.
- Older appliances with simple mechanical controls (e.g., a turn-dial microwave) are considered white goods and may be dropped off at no cost.
- Small appliances (blenders, mixers, toasters, etc.) may be disposed of with regular trash using an excess waste tag ($2.00 per item).
- Larger digital appliances require an e-waste tag. Visit Electronics Recycling for more information
- For tagged items (purchase required before calling), please call Aiken Refuse to schedule a pickup so the proper driver is notified.
- Appliances containing Freon must have doors disabled, Freon removed, and be properly tagged by a certified technician.
